History

Novus' history in fact precedes its establishment. The story begins when its founders, Safwan and Chafic Kuzbari began arranging capacity trading between airline providers, and consequently entered into an era of carefully managed lease-in and lease-out contracts.

United Aviation Services (UAS) was established and became a major Hajj supplier for Middle Eastern and North and West African Countries.

1984

Purchase and leaseback to PANAM of one B737-200

1985

Acquisition of 2 DC8-63 from KLM

1987

First wide-body fleet acquisition from Delta Airlines of 6 DC10-10 aircraft for onward lease to ScanAir (subsidiary of SAS).

1990

UAS becomes the world’s fifth largest operating lessor by fleet size.

1993

Adverse market conditions caused UAS to stop trading.

1994

NOVUS (Latin for ‘New’)was launched by a key group of UAS’s members.

1997

First multi-aircraft investment fund.

2002

First Shari’a-compliant aircraft fund.

2007

First Shari’a-compliant Syndicated aircraft fund.

2010

First single-aircraft investor fund.

2012

Dubai office opens.

2013

First Asia Pacific office opens in Hong Kong

2014

Novus celebrates its 20th anniversary.

2015

Novus’s portfolio size is estimated at close to $3 billion. Novus closes SLB of five B777s with EK.

2016

London office opens Establishment of "Ortus" Fund
